The FA Learning International Course

Course overview

This new International course has been designed by FA Learning to encompass the new FA Coaching philosophy and introduce you to a series of technical and theoretical aspects related to coaching.

It is the first of three levels (Foundation, Intermediate and Advanced) which build upon each other and offer a comprehensive learning programme for internationally based coaches.

The Foundation Course includes a range of practices that can be utilised for a variety of players in different situations. In addition, there will be help on how to adapt coaching sessions to meet the needs of your players, including working as a coach with limited resources at your disposal.

Course aims and objectives
To provide all course participants with an introduction to the effective management and coaching of football to both adults and young people, in order to assist the safe and progressive delivery of coaching sessions. It will also aim to build a vocabulary needed to engage players and gain confidence in the utilisation of a variety of coaching practices.

Course Content
The theory components will include:

An introduction of coaching qualities.
Player competencies.
Session planning.
The organisation and running of a group run tournament.

In addition, there will be an introduction to the FA’s Long Term Player Development model and it’s incorporation into your coaching skills.

The practical elements will include:

A range of practices that will cover a variety of technical aspects (passing and control, turning with the ball, dribbling, shooting, heading, goal keeping, small sided games).
Coaching session adaptations.
Coaching session progressions that vary depending on your players’ abilities and time.

Integral to the course will be the chance to plan and work with young players with feedback from your FA International Course tutor.

Course Duration
The course will run over a 7 day programme that will include a mixture of practical and theory elements. All course participants are encouraged to involve themselves fully in all aspects of the course.

Tutor support and guidance
All students will receive Tutor support and guidance towards completion of the course assignments and continued feedback around their practical coaching performance. There is a formative assessment process which involves the delivery of a session, which will be drawn from the breadth of the Technical syllabus. Upon completion, the Tutor will provide detailed feedback around agreed criteria and Action Plan effectively. This is seen as a key aspect of this Award for aspiring coaches.

The FAL Coaching Players – A New Approach DVD.
The FAL introduction to coaching DVD.
The FAL youth Award Module one candidate’s resource pack.
The FAL Youth Award Module one developing the environment DVD.

Successful Candidates

Progression Opportunities
Following successful completion of this course, the content will prepare candidates to access the International Coaching Award intermediate Level, or the FA Level 2 Coaching Certificate in Football/FA Youth Module- Developing the practices course in England.
